Mid-bust Vs. Underbust Corset:

So what is the difference between a mid-bust and an underbust corset?

An underbust corset is a type of corset that starts below the breasts and extends to the beginning of the hips. It is worn around the waist and sits under the bust, hence it does not provide any bust coverage. This type of corset can be worn underneath a dress or gown as innerwear/shapewear to achieve an hourglass silhouette, or over the clothes as a fashion accessory. It usually has lacing on the back or front to adjust the size and tightness. However, it does not provide any support for the breasts, so a bra is needed when wearing an underbust corset[1][2][3][5][7].

On the other hand, a mid-bust or cropped corset starts at mid-bust, making it more revealing than an underbust corset. The boning starts at the bust, providing support to the breasts. Its purpose is to give a streamlined silhouette. Mid-bust corsets come halfway up the bust, so it is necessary to wear a chemise underneath. The corset laces in the back, and can be easily put on or taken off using the front busk closure[1][2][3][5].

In summary, the main difference between an underbust and a mid-bust corset lies in the area they cover and support. An underbust corset starts below the breasts and does not provide bust coverage or support, while a mid-bust corset starts at mid-bust and provides support to the breasts.
